Former world no.1 compares Aryna Sabalenka’s power to male players

by

Aryna Sabalenka is a tennis player who is talked about every day thanks to her masterful performances. The public is wondering what the limits of the Belarusian player are and what kind of results she can really achieve in the coming period. Her matches in Grand Slam finals attracted enormous attention, and to many Aryna seems like a tough challenge.

Although she came up short in two finals, it is clear that she possesses a quality above the others. The final of the US Open showed her full capacity, when she defeated Anisimova.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov, former world number one, was a guest on the YouTube channel First and Red, where he was asked if Iga Swiatek plays "men's tennis".

He believes that most of her opponents give her so much freedom on court, while Aryna Sabalenka, with her aggressive style and pace, makes her job much more difficult.

“I can tell you what I’ve seen for the last two or three years, her opponents allowed her to play this tennis,” he said, as quoted by Tennis Gazette.

“But they didn’t hit as powerfully as Aryna [Sabalenka] does.

When Sabalenka comes out against [Iga] Swiatek, it’s a completely different story to what we see happen with Swiatek against other opponents before, where she dictated the style of play, she dictated the power of the shots, and now everything is going the other way.

Aryna holds her serve without too much effort.”

Some are already making comparisons between the Belarusian tennis player and male tennis players. Although such comparisons attract enormous attention and most remain skeptical when talking about the dominance of female players in the in men’s tennis, Yevgeny Kafelnikov believes that Aryna has a significantly stronger serve than some male tennis players.

“She serves… I’m not afraid to say it, more powerfully than some men,” he said.
