San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills quarterback Troy Huhn announced moments ago he will be playing his college ball at Virginia Tech.
Huhn was an early Penn State commit but backed off his pledge after former head coach James Franklin was announced as the new head man at Virginia Tech two weeks ago.

He took an official visit that same weekend and it always seemed like more a mater of when, not if he would announce for the Hokies.
“There were a lot of reasons why I chose Virginia Tech,” Huhn said. “The biggest was my relationship with coach Franklin and also the opportunity to be a part of something special here at Virginia Tech.
“Coach Franklin has done so much for my family and I’m excited play for him. He’s truly a players coach and I’m really excited about the direction he’s taking the program.”
Huhn said he felt at home on his recent visit and immediately knew Blacksburg was the place for him.

“The visit was great,” Huhn said. “It was really good to see a familiar face (Franklin) right when I got there. Coach has been through a ton the past couple of months and to see him finally land at a place is so awesome!
“The campus was beautiful, all the buildings had Hokie stone. There’s a lot to build off of, the history is definitely there and coach Franklin wants to bring this place back to where it once was.”
Huhn is a smooth pocket passer who’s coming off a strong senior year. He led Mission Hills to a 9-2 record and a San Diego Open Division semi-final appearance before losing to eventual champion Cathedral Catholic 42-25.
The Elite 11 signal caller has a prototype 6-4 frame with plenty of room to add good weight and he made a lot of positive strides over the last year.

He processes the game well, gets the ball out quick and shows under-rated pocket presence and mobility. He throws an accurate deep ball, changex speeds and has a good understanding of how to play the position.
He dramatically improved his completion percentage and touchdown/interception ratio as a senior as well as his poise and toughness. He’s a natural leader and looks to be trending in the right direction.
