Francisco Cerundolo reveals Rafael Nadal is the Big Three member he would choose for a 12-hour road trip because of cultural similarities between the Argentine and Spanish people.
Cerundolo, the top-ranked Argentinian male tennis player, gave an interview to a local publication just before the start of the 2026 season.
After answering some questions about his career and results, Cerundolo received a couple of relaxed but also interesting questions. One of the questions posed to the 27-year-old made him pick a road-trip companion between Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
Cerundolo: Nadal speaks Spanish, we probably have the same taste in music and out cultures are similar
"If I were traveling for 12 hours, I'd choose Nadal for several reasons. One, he speaks Spanish, which makes it easier to talk for 12 hours straight. Two, because of our musical tastes, which can be quite similar. And three, our cultures are more or less the same," the 27-year-old told Infobae.
After showing respect to Nadal by naming as someone he would choose as a road-trip friend, Cerundolo also named Federer as the player he would place on Argentina's Davis Cup squad. When explaining why, the three-time ATP champion noted that he never got a chance to play against Federer on the court – and if the Swiss tennis icon was a part of the Argentine Davis Cup team – he would at least get a chance to practice with the former 20-time Grand Slam champion.
"I never got to play against him because when I started out, I only crossed paths with him in a couple of tournaments, but then he retired. So, I'd love to be able to play, even just a doubles match with him, a rally, a practice session," the world No. 21 explained.
Cerundolo also named Djokovic as the Big Three member that he would select to be his coach.
