Florida State women’s basketball (7-14, 2-7 ACC) ended the month of January on a losing note on Sunday when it fell to Georgia Tech (9-12, 4-5), 80-69 at the Donald. L. Tucker Center.
While FSU kept the game tight throughout the game, including cutting it to three points early in the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets prevailed with a 12-0 run, giving them the edge once they received a double-digit lead.

Sole Williams led the Seminoles with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists. Pania Davis nearly had a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. She also tallied three of FSU’s eight blocked shots and a steal. Senior guard Amaya Bonner added 14 points and four assists.
Despite the losing effort, the Seminoles were efficient on defense. Along with the eight blocks, FSU generated 13 turnovers and seven steals.
FSU started off strong after knocking down a few jumpers, putting the Noles ahead 21-19 by the end of the first quarter. Georgia Tech remained balanced and dominated the second quarter, outscoring FSU 25-14 to take a 44-35 lead at the half.
FSU began its comeback in the third quarter with a 6-2 run and forced four turnovers in the first five minutes of play. The Seminoles managed to cut GA Tech’s lead to eight by the end of the period, 60-52.

Williams sparked the Seminoles with a 3-point basket and a layup to start the fourth quarter. FSU was down by three at that point. After that, it was all Yellow Jackets once it went on a 12-0 run, putting them back in double digits and the victory.
Georgia Tech’s Talayah Walk led the Yellow Jackets with 24 points. Former FSU guard Brianna ‘Snoop’ Turnage played her first game at the Tucker Center since her departure to her former team. She dropped seven points, but grabbed 18 rebounds.

What’s next for FSU basketball
With February approaching, FSU will be on the road for the next two games. On Sunday, it will head to Clemson (14-7, 5-4) to begin the month during the Pray4Kay series. Tipoff will be at 4 p.m.

The following Thursday, it will head to North Carolina State (14-6, 7-2) for an 8 p.m. matchup. Both games will be televised on the ACC Network.
