Florida State women’s basketball remained in a slump Thursday night, falling to Virginia Tech in a 79-54 blowout at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
The Seminoles have now lost five straight games and remain winless in ACC play. Four of those losses have been by double digits, and the defense has allowed an average of 87.5 points per game during the skid.

FSU (4-9, 0-2 ACC) fell behind early after committing three turnovers that fueled a 7-0 Hokies run. Virginia Tech (10-3, 1-1) built an 18-4 lead less than four minutes into the first quarter and led 45-28 at halftime.

The Seminoles committed 15 turnovers and struggled to slow Virginia Tech, which closed the game by outscoring FSU, 20-14, in the fourth quarter. FSU shot just 29% (16 of 56) from the field and 27% (4 of 15) from 3-point range.
Jasmine Shavers was the lone Seminole to score in double figures, with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Virginia Tech had four starters in double figures, including two players with double-doubles. Carys Baker led the Hokies with 21 points and nine rebounds. Mackenzie Nelson added 18 rebounds and 12 assists, while Mel Daley contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds. Carleigh Wenzel scored 11 points.

FSU will return to the Tucker Center on Saturday to host South Carolina State (3-10) at 2 p.m.
