Sunrisers Hyderabad, a team that made its debut in 2013 by replacing the Deccan Chargers, has been one of the most consistent teams in the history of the league, having made it to the playoffs for eight consecutive years.

Although it had a few below-par seasons after that, it made a strong comeback by reaching the final in 2024, playing an aggressive brand of cricket.

2008-2013

Decan Chargers, as the Hyderabad franchise was known back then, had a nightmarish start to the league as it finished at the bottom of the points table in the inaugural season

However, the team came back strongly under the leadership of Adam Gilchrist the following year and went on to win the title after defeating RCB in a low-scoring affair in the final.

Deccan Chargers made good use of players like Rohit Sharma, who performed with both bat and ball that particular season, which included a hat-trick as well.

The defending champions were able to continue the good work they did in the last season next year as well by finishing second in the points table, thereby making it to the knockouts in back-to-back seasons

2014-2019

The 2011 and 2012 seasons were forgettable ones for the Deccan Chargers as they had to let go of a lot of players in the 2011 IPL auction, which had a great impact on the performance of the team.

Come 2013, the Deccan Chargers were replaced by Sunrisers Hyderabad, and comprised the majority of the players who were a part of the Deccan Chargers last season.

Unlike the Deccan Chargers, SRH had a great start to their IPL journey and made it to the playoffs in their debut season itself by finishing fourth in the points table.

It was the start of a dream run for the Sunrisers Hyderabad as the team qualified for the playoffs in eight consecutive IPL seasons, including the 2016 one, where the then David Warner-led side defeated RCB to win its first IPL title.

2020-2025

However, a lot has changed since that win, including the captain. SRH has tried three different captains after replacing David Warner midway through the 2021 season.

The team management decided to hand over the captaincy to Kane Williamson after parting ways with Warner in 2022, as the then-New Zealand captain had already led the side in Warner’s absence in 2018 and had taken the team to the final.

After Williamson wasn’t able to replicate the same success he had with the team in 2018, the captaincy was handed over to Aiden Markram for the 2023 season, who had led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a title win in the inaugural edition of the SA20 that very year.

The search for the skipper finally ended when the 2023 ODI World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins was picked up by SRH in the 2024 IPL auction, and it proved to be the right decision as Cummins led SRH to its third IPL final.

Sunrisers Hyderabad would hope to replicate the same performance that the team delivered in 2024 after a disappointing campaign in the last IPL edition.

Players Retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad

Although Sunrisers Hyderabad retained most of its first-choice players like captain Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Abhishek Sharma, the team would hope for a better performance from them, which wasn’t the case in the previous edition.
