Shubman Gill blasts an epic 103 runs
Gill came out to bat in the middle when India were under tremendous pressure in the third innings after losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for 0 in the first over.
He started his grind in the middle to lead India to recovery. Gill batted exceptionally well and helped India finish Day 4, on 174/2 in 63 overs, and was unbeaten at 78*.
He continued his batting brilliance on Day 5 and smashed a sensational century in the 83rd over. This ton helped him shatter several records, and many rated it as his best-ever knock.
Gill finished his innings with a score of 103 runs off 238 balls, with 12 fours, and before him, the last Indian to score a Test hundred at Old Trafford in Manchester was Sachin Tendulkar in 1990.
Meanwhile, Gill became the first player to hit four centuries in his debut Test series as captain. Five others – Warwick Armstrong, Don Bradman, Greg Chappell, Virat Kohli, and Steven Smith – had three each in their debut series at the helm. He also became the first Asian to complete 700 runs in a Test series in England and the second Indian captain to hit 700+ runs in a Test series.

India cricket is in safe hands – Dinesh Karthik
Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, former England spinner Phil Tufnell lauded Gill’s beautiful batting. He said:
“Shubman Gill really has batted beautifully, it’s all so silky. The ball just kisses the middle of his bat especially when he comes forward, and he has an extremely poised forward defence.”
Meanwhile, former India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik praised Gill for his outstanding performance and said that Indian cricket is in safe hands. He said:
“This young boy from Punjab, setting it alight in England. There were questions about him as a batter, and he’s put that to bed. He’s been outstanding. He’s taken to leadership like a duck to water. India cricket is in safe hands.”
