Denmark’s Mathias Fullerton topped the compound men’s list at the Walbrzych-Ksiaz 2025 European Field Championships on Wednesday.
Archers shot a 24 target unmarked round in the forests of Ksiaz on Tuesday 16 Spetember, followed by a 24 target marked round on Wednesday 17. The total score from both rounds seeded them for individual, team and mixed team competition, with a cut to top 16 across the board.
After two days of qualification Gwangju 2025 runner-up Fullerton was tied with Aljaz Matija Brenk of Slovenia on 831, but the Dane’s better 6-count saw him in pole position. Former world 3D and world field champion Nico Wiener was in third place with 829, in a tight field which saw the top eight separated by just 11 points.
Great Britain’s Ella Gibson dominated the women’s compound field on both days to lead with 819, a full 18 points ahead of Amanda Mlinaric.
Another Brit, Patrick Huston, managed to place second in recurve men’s qualification despite not having his bow due to an airline mishap. In the most recent of a long line of similar incidents where the archery peleton have supported each other, he managed to borrow the spare bow and arrows of Felix Wieser of Germany – who placed fifth. Matteo Borsani, the reigning World Games champion, topped the field with 756.
2023 World Champion Marie Horackova led the recurve women’s field with 711, just ahead of Bryony Pitman in second place – who has retired from frontline international target duties, but is still shooting field. It was one of many good results for Great Britain across the board which has placed them in three gold medal team finals on Friday.
World Games champion Simone Barbieri topped the barebow men’s list with 705, just ahead of Spain’s Cesar Vera Bringas with 704. It was no surprise to see Cinzia Noziglia at the top of the barebow women’s list with 659, leading both her teammates Eleonora Strobbe and Alessandra Bigogno for an Italian 1,2,3.
The competition continues with individual matches tomorrow.
