Goldberg wasn’t happy about how his final WWE match ended—and now his son is weighing in.
Speaking to WrestleBinge, Gage Goldberg opened up about the moment NBC cut off his dad’s retirement speech after just 28 seconds to roll into local news, and why he doesn’t think the disrespect came from WWE. When asked how he felt about NBC pulling the plug on Goldberg’s final words to the crowd, Gage said he understood the situation.
“I mean, I heard about it like right after — right when we got out of the ring. Like, I got a bunch of texts and they’re like, ‘Yeah, they cut off your dad’s speech and everything.’ But as I see it, I don’t see it as a WWE standpoint. I see it as an NBC stand. And NBC has to — like, they have a specific time that they can show WWE and they have a specific time that they’re going to show the news.”
“So they’re not going to screw up the news for WWE because they have to keep their contracts going and everything. So I mean, I don’t have any hard feelings about that from an NBC standpoint at all. And I know WWE didn’t want to cut him off like that — I don’t think they would at all. No, they didn’t want to cut him off.”
Gage was also asked if WWE could’ve done more to make sure his dad’s speech aired in full. He admitted the timing may have been tight—but still praised Goldberg’s final message.
“Yeah, there’s definitely a strict cut-off. So — and I will say, he did go on a little long tangent. But I mean, his speech overall, it was amazing. He got the right things out to say and I feel like overall, it was a great speech and he got out everything he wanted to say.”
As for his own moment during the match—where Gage jumped the barricade after GUNTHER got in his face—he didn’t shy away from hinting at a possible future in the ring.
“I mean, for sure. Like, I mean if I ever get to that point, 100% I’ll have to get revenge for dad. But yeah, I mean, a little — yeah. Who doesn’t like a little revenge? I mean, if I get to that point, 100%.”
Gage Goldberg made it clear—he’s not pointing fingers at WWE or NBC. But the fire’s lit, and if he ever steps into a ring, GUNTHER might be the first name on his list.
