Coco Gauff eased past Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti 6-2 6-4 to reach the Cincinnati quarterfinals on Thursday.
The American cracked 23 winners to just seven for Bronzetti, including six aces and only three double-faults.
Gauff will face either Jasmine Paolini or Barbora Krejcikova in the last eight.
2023 champion Gauff is making her sixth appearance at Cincinnati. She became the youngest woman in Open Era history to win the title two years ago when she defeated Karolina Muchova in the final, and went on to win the US Open later that summer.
“It’s super special to play on this court again, I have special memories from 2023,” Gauff said. “I think for the most part I played aggressive, but maybe got a little bit passive in some of those games. I was just trying to play controlled and also aggressive, and for the most part I did well.”
Gauff broke serve five times from seven opportunities. She never trailed in either set, but did give her early break back in the second set before sealing the win with a final break in the tenth game of set two.
21-year-old Gauff is the youngest woman to reach multiple quarterfinals in Cincinnati since Elina Svitolina in 2015.
