The Indian cricket team support might have been supporting the under-fire opener Abhishek Sharma during the press conferences, but the scenes behind the camera are totally opposite.
Tension inside the Indian camp is clearly rising following India’s crushing loss to South Africa in the Super 8 game of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Gambhir is seen having a serious and intense conversation with the young Indian opener inside the team bus. The visuals suggest Gambhir was not happy with the left-handed batter’s performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 and was explaining something strongly.
And during the entire conversation, the assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate was also there, and he also shared his inputs. Abhishek has been struggling badly in the tournament, and pressure is clearly building.

After another disappointing outing, cameras caught this moment, and fans were quick to react. Many felt such discussions should happen privately and not in front of cameras.
Some even compared Gambhir’s approach with Rohit Sharma, saying the former India captain used to back young players publicly and boost their confidence during tough times.

Sunil Gavaskar urges Abhishek Sharma to control his aggression
Meanwhile, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has shared simple advice for Abhishek Sharma amid his poor form in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Gavaskar feels Abhishek does not need to attack from the very first ball every time. He said the young opener’s natural game is aggressive, and that style has helped him become one of the top T20 batters in the world.

But presently, the Punjab lad needs to stay calm and think smartly. According to Gavaskar, Abhishek should try to spend more time at the crease. Instead of going for big shots early, he should first settle down, understand the pitch, and then play his strokes.
Even if he plays a few dot balls at the start, it is not a big problem. The Indian batting legend believes that once Abhishek gets set, he has the power and skill to score quickly later. Gavaskar feels this could help Abhishek regain confidence and deliver strong performances for India.
On the other hand, Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir has clarified his ‘slogger’ remark that he recently made for Abhishek. Amir said on a Pakistani TV channel, “I was talking about him from the point of view of a bowler. I was talking about his technique.
People felt bad because I used the word “slogger.” By that, I meant his technique is such that a good team, a bunch of good bowlers, can trap him. Look at the 14 runs he scored; he scored all of them on one side. The balls he hit were bad balls. But, when Rabada started bowling well, he was not able to figure it out. He is a good player. Even after bagging three ducks, he has the same intent. He did not go on the back foot. He is positive.”
