Hooker George McGuigan has rejoined Newcastle Falcons for a third spell on a one-year contract.

The 32-year-old made his debut for the Falcons in 2011, making 69 appearances before moving to Leicester Tigers in 2016.

McGuigan returned to Kingston Park two years later and stayed until 2022 before moving to Gloucester where he stayed until his contract was cancelled by mutual consent in March.

He has been without a club since leaving Welsh side Ospreys after his short-term deal concluded at the end of last season.

“It’s been a difficult year so I’m looking forward to getting back to the club I call home, and hopefully showing everybody I’ve still got a lot to offer,” McGuigan told the club website., external

Director of rugby Steve Diamond added: “George is very well thought of at the club. He’s very physical, the nuts and bolts of his set-piece are good and he brings a lot of experience to our forward pack as we continue to build.”

McGuigan becomes the latest player to commit his future to the new-look Falcons who are set to be taken over by Red Bull in the coming days, linking up with the likes of Connor Doherty, Ollie Leatherbarrow and Max Clark ahead of the new season.
