Good news, Blue Jays fans: George Springer is in the lineup for Game 6 of the ALCS on Sunday night against the Mariners. He’s batting leadoff as the designated hitter.
Springer was forced to exit Game 5 on Friday after taking a 96 mph Bryan Woo fastball off his right knee. Tests on the knee came back negative, so the Jays were confident he’d be good to go on Sunday, but it wasn’t official until the lineup was released.
The 36-year-old hit a career-high .309 during the regular season with 32 home runs and a .959 OPS, one of the biggest turnarounds in baseball. He’s batting .256 in the postseason, with three home runs and five doubles.
The Blue Jays, who trail the ALCS, 3-2, are looking to send the series to a Game 7 with a win.
