The Blue Jays were without leadoff hitter George Springer for their victories in Games 4 and 5 of the World Series. Will he return to the lineup for Game 6 on Friday at Rogers Centre? Manager John Schneider sounds hopeful.
Schneider said Thursday that Springer has “kind of checked every box physically so far” and was “ready to come in” off the bench in Game 5 if the team had needed him.
“I’m glad we didn’t need him [in Game 5] and got him an extra couple days, but hopefully he’s good to go tomorrow,” Schneider said of Springer.
Springer has four homers and an .884 OPS through 14 games this postseason. Davis Schneider replaced him as Toronto’s leadoff hitter for Game 5 and launched the first pitch he saw for a home run as part of a 6-1 win that moved the Blue Jays to within one victory of their first World Series title since 1993.
