The Georgia Bulldogs absolutely stifled the Alabama Crimson Tide rushing attack in the SEC championship. Georgia held Alabama to negative-three rushing yards on 16 rushing attempts in the Dawgs’ 28-7 win.
Georgia held Alabama to a negative rushing total for just the second time in Alabama football history. The Crimson Tide managed 26 rushing yards when excluding quarterback Ty Simpson’s rushing total, but being held to a negative rushing total shows how much Georgia dominated Alabama in the trenches.

Georgia pressured Simpson all night and forced him into negative-28 rushing yards. Georgia’s three sacks of Simpson is what made Alabama having a negative rushing total possible, but it was clear from the first drive that the Crimson Tide could not run on Georgia.

Injuries played a big factor in Alabama’s rushing struggle. The Crimson Tide, who had 10 players out for the SEC championship, were without starting running back Jam Miller and depth running back Kevin Riley. Additionally, Alabama had several injured offensive linemen including Kam Dewberry, who suited up but did not play.
Both Alabama and Georgia were beat up entering the SEC championship, so it will be interesting to see how both teams look the next time they play. Georgia had quite a few injuries as well, but still maintained an effective rushing attack.

Next up, Georgia and Alabama will find out their College Football Playoff fates. Georgia (12-1) is expected to be the No. 2 seed in the playoff, while Alabama (10-3) projects as the No. 9 or No. 10 seed, but is close to the bubble.
