Just days after making his NFL preseason debut in the Detroit Lions‘ 34-7 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the Hall of Fame game, Dan Jackson is set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
As revealed during a press conference on Monday by head coach Dan Campbell, the former Georgia Bulldogs safety is going on the injured reserve with a leg injury. The specifics of the injury that Jackson suffered during practice on Sunday weren’t revealed, but Campbell’s comments weren’t optimistic.
“It doesn’t look good,” Campbell said Monday. “It looks like he’s going to be down for a while.”
As for how long Jackson will be out of action?
“Can he come back?” Campbell added. “There’s about a million things here that can happen with it. So all I can tell you he’s on IR right now.”
The injury comes just weeks into training camp for the rookie safety. After a Georgia career that started as a walk-on before working his way up the depth chart throughout his six-year career. Last season would prove to be his most productive. He started in 13 of his 14 games, totaling 64 tackles, two for a loss, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Jackson was an integral piece of Georgia’s secondary. Those starts came even with the emergence of the then-true freshman KJ Bolden.
In his preseason debut, Jackson finished the game with six tackles as he continued his quest toward attempting to make the 53-man roster. Now, that will go on hold as he rehabs from injury.
