Georgia ‘rising star’ coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe to join Dallas Cowboys

When you’re as successful as Kirby Smart is with the Georgia Bulldogs, then it becomes incredibly hard to retain talent on the coaching staff. You may do the hard work and identify the diamond coaches in the rough, but once they show how good they can be, others will hire them away.

It’s a time-honored problem that coaches like Smart, Nick Saban, and now Dan Lanning have faced every offseason. On Tuesday afternoon, Smart’s staff took a hit, with the Dallas Cowboys reportedly hiring outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Uzo-Diribe is a young defensive coach who has been labeled a ‘rising star’ in the industry. He won a championship with the Bulldogs in 2022 as the outside linebackers coach and was named to the 247Sports 30-Under-30 coaching list during his time with the Kansas Jayhawks.

Uzo-Diribe played college ball with the Colorado Buffaloes and had a brief stint with the New Orleans Saints before starting his coaching career. He then started as a graduate assistant in Boulder, moved to Kansas, made stops at SMU and TCU, and landed with the Bulldogs.

In Dallas, Uzo-Diribe will now join a defensive staff led by new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, who most recently coached defensive backs for the Philadelphia Eagles.
