Giants star receiver Malik Nabers is expected to undergo surgery this week for a torn ACL and torn meniscus suffered in the team’s win over the Chargers.
Nabers went down in significant pain after leaping for a pass attempt down the field during the team’s Week 4 win over the Chargers.
He was immediately carted to the locker room, and an MRI afterwards confirmed the unfortunate news that will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.
The time away from the field will, however, also allow Nabers to fully heal from a partially torn labrum suffered during his rookie campaign and turf toe that he's dealt with since his days at LSU.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Giants weighed whether or not he’d need surgery to heal the labrum as well, but doctors decided it’d be best to let it heal.
Schefter notes that Nabers is expected to be back ready for the start of training camp, and he’ll be as close to 100 percent healthy for the first time “since maybe high school.”
That’s certainly encouraging news for Big Blue.
Prior to the injury, the 22-year-old was the focal point for their offense, hauling in 127 receptions over his first 19 regular season games, which is the second-most in NFL history.
