Girls basketball: Lady Pirates go 1-1 at Evansville North

The Lady Pirates traveled to Evansville North to face a tough test Saturday, facing Class 4A No. 3 Hamilton Southeastern led by Florida commit Kennedy Holman.

Greensburg jumped out to a 22-15 lead after the first quarter and led 30-21 at the half. Hamilton Southeastern outscored the Lady Pirates 26-10 in the second half to rally for the 47-40 victory.

Holman finished the game with 21 points to lead all scorers.

Greensburg was led in scoring by Aly Powers with 17 points. Claire Larrison was also in double figures with 14 points. Kahlen Adams added six points. Emma Kuntz had two points and Mary Harmon had one point.

On the glass, Larrison completed the double-double with 11 rebounds. Kuntz, Powers and Adams all grabbed four rebounds. Harmon had three boards. Lulu Webb had two rebounds and Sophie Buening added one rebound.

Adams had a team-high four assists. Larrison and Powers both dished out three assists.

In the second game Saturday, the Lady Pirates defeated Gibson Southern 57-48.

The Lady Pirates trailed 32-27 at the half, but rallied the cut the deficit to 39-38 heading to the fourth quarter. In the final eight minutes, Greensburg outscored Gibson Southern 19-9 to post the 9-point win.

Powers and Larrison were both in double figures again with 26 and 20 points respectively. Kuntz, Harmon and Adams all scored three points. Buening scored two points.

Larrison had a team-leading nine rebounds. Kuntz finished with eight boards. Harmon grabbed five rebounds followed by Powers with four, Buening with three and Adams with three.

Adams and Harmon both dished out five assists to lead the Lady Pirates. Powers added two assists.

Greensburg hosts South Dearborn (0-10) Thursday and Rushville (1-7) Saturday.

Batesville 53, Shelbyville 48

Saturday, the Batesville Lady Bulldogs played host to Shelbyville. After played even through three quarter, the Lady Bulldogs outscored Shelbyville 10-5 in the final quarter to pull away to the 53-48 victory.

Batesville improves to 5-3 on the season. Shelbyville falls to 4-3.

Maggie Jelinek led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points. Molly Gesell was also in double figures with 12 points. Jersey Trenkamp and Nora Wiedeman both scored nine points followed by Leah Meyer eight points and Kaylin Kathmann two points.

Jelinek completed the double-double with 14 rebounds. Kathmann added six rebounds and a team-high six assists. Gesell grabbed five rebounds. Wiedeman and Meyer both had three rebounds.

In earlier action, the Lady Bulldogs suffered a 45-36 loss at Franklin County. Batesville led at each of the first two quarter breaks, including a 23-19 advantage at halftime.

Maggie Jelinek and Nora Wiedeman led the team in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Wiedeman and Kaylin Kathmann each had a team-best four assists, while Molly Gesell blocked three shots.
