Girls basketball: Lady Pirates sail to victory against Jennings County

Coming off a runner-up finish in the Northridge Tournament, the Lady Pirates returned home Saturday to face potential sectional foe Jennings County. Greensburg took control of this meeting with the Lady Panthers, building a 14-point lead through three quarters and posting a 49-36 victory.

With the win, Greensburg improves to 11-5. Jennings County drops to 12-4.

The Lady Pirates shot 42 percent from the field and held the Lady Panthers to 30 percent shooting from the field. Greensburg also dominated points in the paint, outscoring Jennings County 26-14.

The Lady Pirates were also dominant on the glass, out-rebounding Jennings County 33-25. Greensburg also dished out 16 assists in the game.

For Greensburg, Claire Larrison tallied 28 points, four rebounds and three assists. Aly Powers finished with 10 points, five rebounds and one assist. Emma Kuntz had five points and a team-high seven rebounds. Sophie Buening added four points and three rebounds. Kahlen Adams had two points, four rebounds and three assists. Mary Harmon grabbed six rebounds and dished out a team-high nine assists.

Molly Ernstes led Jennings County in scoring with 21 points. Etta Young added 11 points followed by Kaydence Lowman three and Riley Byford one.

Greensburg hosts Eastern Hancock (10-3) Tuesday.

Batesville

The Lady Bulldogs played host to Jennings County in the first action of 2026 for either squad. The Lady Panthers led at every quarter break en route to the 52-37 victory.

Batesville drops to 8-9 on the season.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first quarter. At the half, Jennings County extended the lead to 23-13. Batesville cut the deficit by two in the third quarter and trailed 37-29 heading to the final eight minutes. A 15-8 fourth quarter run by the Lady Panthers sealed the Jennings County win.

For Batesville, Kaylin Kathmann had 10 points, two rebounds and seven assists. Molly Gesell finished with nine points six rebounds and two assists. Jersey Trenkamp added seven points and one assist. Nora Wiedeman tallied six points, three rebounds and two assists. Jolene Dirkhising had three points and two rebounds. Maggie Jelinek added two points and 11 rebounds.

Jennings County won the junior varsity contest 11-7.

Batesville was led by Kenzi Lacey with three points and two rebounds. Caitlin Raver added two points and three rebounds. Bella Watson scored two points. Dirkhising grabbed three rebounds. Aubrey Kathmann grabbed two rebounds.

Rushville

The Lady Lions opened 2026 at home against Westfield. A 20-7 run by the Lady Shamrocks in the third quarter helped Westfield pull away to the 64-42 victory.

Westfield improves to 14-5. Rushville drops to 1-15.

Westfield led 17-14 after the first quarter and took a 25-21 lead to the break at the half. After three quarters, the Lady Shamrocks led 45-28.

For the Lady Lions, Mikayla Herbert led in scoring with 12 points. Carly Senour finished with nine points. Lia Bohn added eight points. Charlotte Caviness chipped in with seven points. Charli Marcum had four points, and Makenna Ripberger had two points.

The Lady Lions travel Tuesday to Franklin County (7-8).
