We’re excited to announce the next event of the Chess.com Community Championships. The Chess.com Crazyhouse Chess Championship starts on November 6 and features a $2,500 prize fund. Featuring a variant where initiative is everything, get ready for two tense days of insane sacrifices and beautiful attacking chess!
Crazyhouse is one of the oldest variants on Chess.com. It is similar to Bughouse but for single players. When a player captures a piece, that piece is added to the player’s “bank” and can be used later as part of the player’s own army.
This dynamic allows for beautiful sacrifices since taking the initiative can be decisive.
The event kicks off on November 6 with eight qualifiers that will take place throughout the day. Each qualifier features a 75-minute arena with a 3+0 time control.
Any member of our community can play in the qualifiers. Check out our full qualifier schedule and click the Join button to participate!
As always, we may require players to join a fair play call during the qualifiers. This allows us to keep a safe environment for everyone playing in the event! Players joining these calls must set up two cameras from different angles in the room. Players who refuse to comply will be removed from the event.
The winner of each qualifier earns a spot in the Final, taking place on November 7 at 1 p.m. ET / 19:00 CEST / 10:30 p.m. IST. The Final is a double-elimination bracket with a 3+0 time control.
Last year, NM Janak Awatramani won the Chess.com Crazyhouse Chess Championship after defeating GM Lars Oskar Hauge with a 4.5-2.5 score in the Grand Final. To reach the Grand Final, the two players had to overcome tough opposition, including GMs Andrew Tang and Jeffery Xiong. Can the national master pull off the same feat this year, or will the grandmasters strike back to take his crown?
