Great Nephew of former President Michel Temer is new Cobras Captain

A leadership change has taken place at Os Cobras. It has come with the appointment of a player related to former Brazilian President (2016-2018), Michel Temer. The great nephew of Michel Temer is now the captain of Brazil’s professional rugby team, Os Cobras.

The player in question is 27-year-old Lorenzo Massari Temer. The center arrived in Brazil from Italy where he played professional rugby before goin g on to be capped by Brazil. He used to visit Brazil, from Italy, and go to Michel Temer’s house while he was Vice-President.

Lorenzo Massari Temer was born in Brazil but moved to Italy aged seven. He went through the Italian rugby academy system, living there between the ages of 15 and 17. He was considered to play for Italy at u20 level.

Video highlights of Massari Temer were spotted by friends in Curitiba. He was subsequently invited back to Brazil where his rugby career has flourished. He made his debut for Brazil against Canada in 2019.

Massari Temer takes over the captaincy from flanker / second-rower Cléber Dias. Both players have been regulars for Brazil’s test team, Os Tupis; indeed, Dias is a rare Brazilian test player to have reached 50 caps.

Os Cobras open their SRA 2026 season against Los Dogos at Córdoba Athletic Club on Friday. Additional week one fixtures see Los Tarucas vs Selknam, Yacare vs Los Pampas and Los Capibaras vs Peñarol.
