Jan. 5—Friday.
The Illinois women’s basketball team prediction I made in The News-Gazette had a hint to it.
Win back-to-back Top 25 games, and the Illini would have been in the top 15 on my AP Top 25 ballot come Monday.

Particularly with the way results broke on Saturday and Sunday.
Still, as it stands, Illinois landed a place in my Top 25. A 73-70 victory against No. 7 Maryland on New Year’s Day was more than enough to warrant getting ranked, in my opinion.
But the Illini’s 81-75 loss at No. 24 Michigan State on Sunday (I got the score exactly correct, by the way) limited how much ‘s team rose on my ballot.
Here’s how I voted in this week’s poll:
1. Texas
2. Connecticut
3. UCLA
4. South Carolina
5. Kentucky
6. Vanderbilt
7. Oklahoma
8. Maryland
9. Michigan
10. TCU
11. LSU
12. Iowa State
13. Mississippi
14. Louisville
15. Iowa
16. Baylor
17. Texas Tech
18. Ohio State
19. Michigan State
21. Nebraska
22. Stanford
23. Washington
24. North Carolina
25. Tennessee
