After announcing that he will part ways with AM Racing, Harrison Burton has secured a new ride with Sam Hunt Racing, where he will drive the No. 24 Toyota next season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (which is set to be renamed as the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series).
Burton, who currently sits 12th in the championship standings, moved back down to the second division this year after three seasons in Cup with the Wood Brothers. He struggled at the top level of the sport, but a shock win at Daytona in 2024 did earn him a playoff spot.
With Am Racing, he has improved their championship position by 20 positions from last year.
In 2026, he returns to Toyota, a manufacturer he earned all of his NASCAR Xfinity wins with. He won four races during the 2020 NXS season while driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.
Sam Hunt Racing will also have two full-time cars on the grid, with Burton in the No. 24 and current driver Dean Thompson in the No. 26.
Thompson missed the playoffs this year, and sits 16th in the driver standings. The team has utilized a variety of drivers in its second car this year, which has run 17 races. While SHR has never won, they have 13 top fives, and 35 top tens over the past seven years.
