by

Indiana football needed some late-game heroics from Fernando Mendoza and Omar Cooper Jr. to pick up the program’s first-ever win against Penn State in Happy Valley last week.

Now, as the second-ranked Hoosiers (No. 2 CFP rankings) return home to Memorial Stadium for their final home game of the season against Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 15, they and Curt Cignetti will look to get one step closer to another historic program first: going unbeaten and untied in the regular season.

At 10-0 on the season, the Hoosiers, led by Heisman Trophy candidate Fernando Mendoza, are one win away from tying the program record for the single-most wins in a single season, which was set last season when Cignetti led Indiana to an 11-2 season and Cinderella run to the first round of the College Football Playoff.

The Hoosiers and the Badgers are set to kick off at noon ET on Nov. 15 in Bloomington. Here’s what to know about the Hoosiers’ best seasons in program history and more:

Has Indiana football ever gone undefeated in a season?

Yes — but Indiana football has never finished a season unbeaten and untied. The closest Indiana has come to such a season came in 1945, when the Hoosiers finished 9-0-1, with a tie early in the regular season against Northwestern.

If the Hoosiers are able to pick up wins against Wisconsin and Purdue to close out the regular season, they will head into the postseason with their first undefeated season in program history.
