Pakistan pacer Hassan Ali has found himself in a dramatic moment on the field during the 34th match of the ongoing Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 2025-26) between the Melbourne Stars and the Adelaide Strikers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.
A routine stop turned into a moment of frustration and a costly error for both Hasan Ali and the Adelaide Strikers on Tuesday (January 13). The Pakistani pacer first misjudged the ball, allowing it to slip past him when it should have been stopped cleanly, and then ruined another chance by offering a boundary.
Hasan Ali’s costly misfield gifts four runs to Melbourne Stars in BBL 2025-26 clash
The incident unfolded in the 8th of Melbourne Stars’ chase in the crucial BBL 2025-26 clash at the MCG. Tabraiz Shamsi bowled a full ball outside the off stump to Thomas Rogers. The batter moved forward and played a clean drive, hitting the ball wide of extra cover.

The shot went fast towards the boundary. Hasan was fielding deep at sweeper cover and had a long distance to run. He chased the ball hard and first tried to stop it with his right hand, but he missed it. Realizing the ball was still going towards the boundary, he then dove desperately to pull it back. However, during the dive, the ball touched the boundary cushions.

Because of this, the on-field umpires were not fully sure if it was a four or if Hasan had saved it in time. Well, the decision was sent upstairs to the third umpire. After checking the replays, the third umpire confirmed that the ball had touched the cushions. Since the ball made contact with the boundary, Rogers got four runs.

Tom Curran’s stunning bowling ends Adelaide Strikers’ playoffs hope
Meanwhile, Tom Curran ended Adelaide Strikers’ playoff hopes with his remarkable bowling performance and kept Melbourne Stars alive in the race for the BBL 2025-26 finals. He produced the best bowling performance of his T20 career and completely destroyed the Strikers’ batting line-up.
Curran was outstanding with the new ball, using perfect length and movement to trouble every batter, and returned with the stunning figures of 4/10 in his four overs. Mitchell Swepson also supported him well by taking three wickets as the Adelaide Strikers were bowled out for only 83 runs in 19.3 overs, which is their second-lowest total in BBL history.

Strikers’ batting woes continue
The Strikers struggled from the very start. They lost early wickets, could not hit boundaries in the powerplay, and kept playing poor shots under pressure. Their lower-order batters failed completely, and the innings collapsed quickly.
Chasing a small target, the Melbourne Stars played carefully, as the MCG pitch was not easy for batting. Tom Rogers scored 32 runs and helped guide the chase. Stoinis also contributed an unbeaten 23. But just before the win, he was hit hard on his right thumb by a fast delivery, and he left the field. Stars still won the match by six wickets and kept their hopes alive for the final.
