Hawks star Trae Young to serve as ESPN ‘College GameDay’ guest picker

by

Trae Young is headed back to Norman on Saturday. The Atlanta Hawks star, former Oklahoma guard, and Oklahoma Basketball assistant general manager will be the guest picker on ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturday morning. Young previously served as the guest picker on the show in 2020 via video conference for the Sooners-Oklahoma State game.

Young was featured on ESPN “College GameDay’s” social media account, projecting confidence ahead of the Sooners’ showdown with the Michigan Wolverines.

Oklahoma, which enters Saturday’s game ranked 24th in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, will host No. 13 Michigan for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff from Memorial Stadium. The Sooners are 2-2 in games during which Oklahoma celebrities have been invited to “GameDay” as a guest picker.

In 2018, Brian Bosworth picked OU over Alabama in a game the Crimson Tide ultimately won, 45-34. Oklahoma won its 2020 game against OSU, 41-13. The Sooners beat Texas, 34-30, in 2023 when Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield picked. And, most recently, in 2024, OU lost to Tennessee, 25-15, after Blake Shelton served as picker.

Saturday’s game against Michigan will be only the second featuring two of the top-eight winningest programs in college football history. Oklahoma won the only previous meeting in the 1976 Orange Bowl, 14-6. The Sooners were later named national champions of the 1975 season.
