Kentucky Basketball’s defense allowed 85 points, but the offense put up 99 and was scorching from 3-point land, an area this team has struggled mightily at times in, allowing the Wildcats to come away with a 99-85 victory over the Bellarmine Knights.
While it was odd to see the defense have a letdown performance, it was great to see the offense play the way it did Tuesday. Defensively, they will get better. This was a trap game, two days before Christmas, and a long break was coming up for the Wildcats.

Jaland Lowe sat this one out as Kentucky manages his shoulder. In his place, Otega Oweh and Jasper Johnson combined for 17 of Kentucky’s 24 assists, but the real story of the game was today’s MVP.
MVP: Kam Williams
Don’t look now, but Williams is really starting to come on like Big Blue Nation thought he would. It turns out Mark Pope may have recruited a shooter in the transfer portal this offseason after all.
Williams was in top form shooting the ball on Tuesday, going 8/10 from 3-point range and scoring 26 points in just 21 minutes.
Not only was Williams in top form shooting, so too was Kentucky’s entire team. Entering Tuesday, the Cats were shooting just 32% from 3-point range. Kentucky went 16/30 from 3-point range against Bellarmine. It was their best shooting performance of the season, and it came after the Cats hit just 7/31 in the wins over Indiana and St. John’s.

If the defense we saw in those games can match the offense we saw today, this Kentucky team can become a dangerous group come March.
