The Special Olympics family extends heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of famed architect Frank Gehry, who passed away on 5 December 2025 at the age of 96.

Earlier in the year, Gehry shared his artistic talents by painting a Vespa and helmet that were auctioned at a fundraising gala supporting the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025. The prestigious gala, held at the Armani/Teatro in Milan, also featured Vespas painted by artist Urs Fischer and Special Olympics Italy athlete Ilaria Ghinka Bonanni, among other items like Chanel sunglasses and a Louis Vuitton trunk.

Gehry’s Vespa, featuring a white and Columbia blue loose graphic design, was featured in Vogue Italia prior to the Games Opening Ceremony.

Gehry was considered by many to be the most important architect of his time. His buildings include the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.
