Who does Houston miss from the Big 12 schedule?
BYU, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Utah
The Cougars have a strong bunch of teams they don’t have to play. Cincinnati might have been a plus to have on the slate, but Kansas should be way stronger, Utah will be far, far better, and BYU, Iowa State, and Kansas State will all be Big 12 title favorites.

Houston football schedule, the good and the bad
The Good: The team doesn’t leave Houston over the first four weeks of the season – there’s a road game at Rice – and there aren’t two road games in a row.
The Big 12 did the Cougars a solid by breaking up the four away dates, and in all, four of the six dates away from TDECU are against teams that didn’t go bowling last year. But …
The Bad: There aren’t two road games in a row, but there also aren’t two back-to-back home games. Again, going to Rice isn’t exactly going on the road, but after September 20th, the Cougars won’t be able to get too comfy.
And as for those road games against teams that struggled last year, Oklahoma State and UCF will be far better, and one of those road games is against Big 12 Champion Arizona State.
Houston Football Schedule: Best and worst case scenarios
Best Case Scenario: There aren’t any problems in September.
The Cougars win the Big 12 opener against Colorado, and have no problems on the road against Oregon State or down the road against Rice. With a home win over Texas Tech, the team is 5-0 going into the date against Oklahoma State.
There might be a few road losses, but the team wins all three of the home games over the second half of the season to get bowl eligible with ease.

Worst Case Scenario: A loss to Colorado is bad, a loss to Oregon State is worse, and dropping a close battle against Texas Tech means a 2-3 start before going to Oklahoma State.
The Cougars lose five of the six road games and are well out of the bowl picture by early November.
