After Hawkeyes suffered a 90-64 loss at the hands of No. 1 UConn (12-0) last Saturday from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., as part of the Shark Beauty Women’s Champions Classic., how did Iowa women’s basketball (10-2, 1-0 Big Ten) fare in the latest update to the NET rankings?
While the team actually shot pretty well (25-for-51 from the floor, 8-for-17 from 3-point territory, and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line) against UConn, the Hawkeyes‘ undoing was through their season-high 26 turnovers, which led to a whopping 41 Husky points off turnovers.

According to the latest update to the NET rankings, the loss to the Huskies dropped the Hawkeyes from their previously held No. 11 spot to No. 12, in part because it was played on a neutral site and against the top-ranked program in the nation.
That being said, Jensen’s squad is now 5-0 against Quad 4 programs, 2-0 against both Quad 3 and Quad 2, and 1-2 against Quad 1 opponents. That 1-2 Quad 1 record features losses to Iowa State and the aforementioned UConn, and a win over Baylor.
As Iowa hosts Penn State (7-5, 0-1 Big Ten) from Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Dec. 27, the Hawkeyes’ Quad 2 matchup against the Nittany Lions could potentially move the program higher in the Dec. 30 update.

Saturday’s game is expected to tip off at 3 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
