Texas A&M’s 2025 season, which ended at 11-2, and 7-1 in SEC play, ended in the first round of the College Football Playoff after falling 10-3 at home to eventual national runner up Miami (FL), as the Hurricanes were just a handful of plays away from take home the national title before falling to the Indiana Hoosiers.
While Indiana’s incredible rise under head coach Curt Cignetti became a national story over the last month, the Aggies quietly landed 17 players from the transfer portal, including star wide receiver Isaiah Horton and ascending edge Anto Saka, who many view as a likely first-round NFL Draft pick in 2027.

Combined with several key players returning, led by starting quarterback Marcel Reed, running back Rueben Owens, and cornerbacks Dezz Ricks and Julio Humphrey, who have all re-signed with the team, Mike Elko’s third season with the program is poised to be his best yet, on paper, at least.
However, how Texas A&M’s revamped offensive line performs, which will feature four new starters after five veterans declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, will likely dictate the season, especially in the run game, where the Aggies need to find more consistent success, starting up front with the blocking.
On Tuesday, Texas A&M finished as the No. 8-ranked team in the final US LBM Coaches Poll voted on by 62 coaches, including Mike Elko. Later that day, USA TODAY released each coach’s personal Top 25, and for those who thought Elko would place the Aggies higher than they deserved, that theory has been squashed.

As you can see, Elko placed the Texas Longhorns at No. 10 above Oklahoma, while including Washington and the ACC Champion Duke Blue Devils in the rankings, impressed by the Huskies during their blowout bowl game win over Boise State.
