How Disney-YouTube TV dispute impacts how to watch OU football game vs Tennessee

This is not the dark mode Tennessee football fans wanted to see this weekend against Oklahoma.

YouTube TV blacked out Disney’s television channels, including ABC and the ESPN family of networks, late on Oct. 30 after the two sides could not come to a contract agreement.

The OU-Tennessee football game is set for kickoff on Nov. 1, with the broadcast to be televised on ABC. As of now, YouTube TV subscribers will not be able to see the game.

Both sides said in their respective statements that they are actively working on an agreement.

“Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to reach a fair deal, and starting today, Disney programming will not be available on YouTube TV,” the streaming service said in a statement posted to social media on Oct. 30. “…. We know how disruptive it is to lose channels you enjoy, and we’re committed to continuing to work with Disney to reach an agreement.”

YouTube TV reported in Feb. 2024 that they had than 8 million subscribers.

“Unfortunately, Google’s YouTube TV has chosen to deny their subscribers the content they value most by refusing to pay fair rates for our channels, including ESPN and ABC,” ESPN said in a statement posted to social media on Oct. 30.

ESPN and ABC will have several notable games on the air, including the Vols and Sooners, this weekend along with Monday Night Football on Nov. 3.

How to watch OU football vs Tennessee, other college football games without YouTube TV

Tennessee football vs. Oklahoma is set for an 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Nov. 1 at Neyland Stadium, with the broadcast televised by ABC.

For fans with YouTube TV, there are a couple ways to watch Tennessee football this weekend. First, an TV antenna could do the trick. You should be able to pick up WATE via antenna in the Knoxville area.

Otherwise, it could be best to opt for a temporary subscription elsewhere. Fubo has a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. ESPN has its unlimited bundle available in its new service that began this year.

Or you can wait out the ESPN-YouTube TV dispute up until game time, hoping for a resolution before kickoff.
