With the start of the postseason about a month away, it’s time for the home stretch of the 2025 MLB regular season. And if the sports betting odds are any indication, there are multiple award races to monitor during these final weeks.
According to the updated betting lines at the BetMGM online sportsbook, the MVP and Cy Young races remain highly competitive in the American League. In the National League, the Rookie of the Year competition might be the only market up in the air.
New York Yankees star Aaron Judge has been the betting favorite to repeat as AL MVP for much of the year. He started trading at minus-odds after hitting four home runs during the Opening Weekend against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Judge briefly relinquished his title as the betting favorite following an injury in late July. He’s back on top since returning to the lineup, but Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has completely closed the gap.
As of late August, Judge is -120 to win his third MVP Award for an implied probability of 54.55%. Raleigh is -110 (52.38%) after starting with 100/1 odds when this market opened in January. Raleigh is the most significant liability at BetMGM, accounting for 21.2% of the handle in this market.
The AL Cy Young race has followed a similar path this season. Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal started as a +300 favorite to repeat, but briefly surrendered his status as the front-runner to Boston Red Sox lefty Garrett Crochet in the spring. Skubal regained control of the market in May and has yet to surrender his lead despite Crochet closing in.
Skubal is a -125 favorite, giving him an implied probability of 55.56% to be the first back-to-back Cy Young winner since Jacob deGrom accomplished the feat in the NL in 2018 and 2019. He has received 29.2% of the handle at BetMGM. Crochet, who is +100, has earned 17.6% of the handle.
The only award market without a clear favorite in the NL is Rookie of the Year. Chicago Cubs right-hander Cade Horton is +145 to lead the latest MLB Rookie of the Year odds, becoming the eighth different NL favorite since the market opened in January.
Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin (+190) and Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Isaac Collins (+200), both of whom recently spent time atop this market, remain in the mix. No other candidate is better than +2500 to win the award.
In the remaining three major award markets, Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz is -10000 to win AL Rookie of the Year. Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is -5000 to repeat as the NL MVP winner, while Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes has -3000 odds to claim the NL Cy Young trophy.
