How to watch Lynx at Fever: Indiana seeks groove before playoffs against No. 1 Minnesota

by

Few live shows can match the natural cool and total synchronicity of these 2025 Minnesota Lynx. They have the WNBA’s No. 1-ranked offense and defense, with a superstar who’s the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and also in the hunt for this year’s scoring title. Napheesa Collier is resting Tuesday, but her top-seeded crew should still find ample motivation in prime time against the Indiana Fever. The hosts are already stamped for the playoffs and have won two straight games, despite their deluge of injuries. That has tempered the vibes, but a thorough Fever win in their regular-season finale could set off some momentum heading into the postseason.

The New York Liberty still clutch the WNBA title around their trunk, and the Las Vegas Aces are the unquestioned focuses of the sport amid their 14-game winning streak. Yet the 2025 season has belonged to the Lynx. Last year’s runners-up have largely humiliated their opponents on both ends, particularly behind the arc (league-best shooting at 38.5 percent) and at the rim (4.8 blocks per game).

Collier looked like the runaway MVP for much of the season, before some of her August was washed out from a right ankle sprain … and before A’ja Wilson went all-out thermonuclear for the Aces. Collier is now listed behind Wilson in the award’s odds (-125 to -105 on BetMGM), and she could slip further with Tuesday’s absence. Minnesota still comes with a bevy of attractions, from Courtney Williams’ swagger to Kayla McBride’s microwave offense. With Collier and DiJonai Carrington (shoulder) on the shelf, expect more looks for Jessica Shepard and fellow forward Bridget Carleton.

The Fever are 12-9 at home and 23-20 overall, but the guard rotation is particularly thin. Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald each endured year-ending injuries in August. Caitlin Clark hasn’t played since July 15, and she officially announced she was out for the rest of 2025 last Thursday. Kelsey Mitchell has been fantastic amid her best scoring campaign of eight pro seasons, but she’s been asked to take on a heavy load. Indiana’s third-ranked offense gets its buckets, but the defense is seventh in opposing 3-point percentage, 10th in 2-point percentage and 12th in fouls.

Indy starts the week a half-game behind the Golden State Valkyries for the sixth seed, and one game up on the Seattle Storm for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Fever (without Clark) did give the Lynx a rare L in this summer’s Commissioner’s Cup finale, winning 74-59 behind a pair of double-doubles from Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard. Another upset Tuesday would give Indiana a spark — and a potentially easier first-round matchup.

Played for both teams: Indiana’s Natasha Howard spent two seasons (2016-17) with the Lynx. Minnesota’s Alanna Smith came off the bench for the 2022 Fever.
