College basketball season is almost here. For the North Carolina Tar Heels, that means showcasing a newer, much-improved roster from last season.
UNC’s top offseason priority was improving height across its roster, which Hubert Davis highlighted at ACC Tipoff on Tuesday. North Carolina landed two 7-footers, will sport four plays listed at 6’10” and carry taller guards, including 6’6″ West Virginia transfer Jonathan Powell.

Playing with a new team can present its fair share of challenges, though. Also at ACC Tipoff on Tuesday, Davis spoke about player development – and how that plays a crucial role in defining his team.
“In order for our team to be good, each individual player has to be good,” Hubert said. “One of the things in terms of individual development, that we speak about at great length every day, is for our guys to be basketball players. I know that sounds simple, but for our guys to check a number of different boxes on both ends of the floor, not one-dimensional. What great example of Seth (Trimble) and Henri (Veesaar), of guys that can get it done on both ends of the floor – and do a number of things on the offensive end, whether it’s around the basket or obviously, outside from three-point range. And so those are things that we talk about – and things that we individually develop – and work on on a daily basis out there on the floor.”
UNC has 12 new players across its roster, including Veesaar, who attended ACC Tip-Off with Trimble and Davis. Veesaar, Colorado State transfer Kyan Evans, Top-10 freshman Caleb Wilson and international wing Luka Bogavac – all newcomers – are projected 2025-2026 starters.
North Carolina will face BYU and Winston-Salem State in a pair of preseason scrimmages, then begin regular season play against Central Arkansas on November 3.
Will the Tar Heels’ new-look roster, complete with 12 new players and a few returners from last season, gel quickly and lead to instant success?
