The Boston Red Sox placed right-handed pitcher Hunter Dobbins on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right ACL tear. To fill his spot, Boston recalled right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts from Triple-A Worcester.
In the second inning of Friday’s 5-4 Red Sox win, Dobbins ran to cover first on a groundout by Chandler Simpson. After making the play on a feed from first baseman Abraham Toro, Dobbins hobbled down the first-base line and grabbed his right leg, prompting trainers and manager Alex Cora to come out. Dobbins made his way over to the mound, threw one warmup pitch and left the game.
Dobbins had been activated off the IL for Friday’s start after being sidelined with a right elbow strain since late June. The rookie has posted a 4.13 ERA in 13 games (11 starts) this season.
