New Hurricanes basketball coach Jai Lucas will coach his first game at Miami on Nov. 3. About two weeks later, he gets a major test: a contest against the reigning national champion Florida Gators away from home.
The matchup with UF highlights Miami’s non-conference basketball schedule, which the team announced Wednesday.

UM opens the season — the first under Lucas — against Jacksonville in the Watsco Center on Nov. 3. Three games later, the Hurricanes will face the Gators, who won the NCAA Tournament in April, in Jacksonville on Nov. 16.
Miami will also play in the Terry’s Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in late November. UM’s opponents have not been announced yet, but BYU, Dayton and Georgetown are among the teams participating.
The Hurricanes will also play Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi, as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge on Dec. 2.
Lucas takes over as the Hurricanes’ coach after Jim Larrañaga and Bill Courtney’s disappointing 2024-25 campaign where Miami went 7-24.
