Dutch Husband and Wife Headed for International Swimming Hall of Fame After Illustrious Careers
When the International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) conducts its 2026 inductions later this year in Fort Lauderdale, the evening will be exceedingly special for the Netherlands’ Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Ferry Weertman. Not only will the Dutch athletes be recognized for their stellar careers, Kromowidjojo as an elite sprinter and Weertman as a distance star, the husband and wife duo will attain Hall of Fame status on the same night, making for a family celebration.
Kromowidjojo and Weertman married in 2022 and welcomed a daughter early last year. Now, they’ll be honored on the same evening as two of the greatest swimmers in history. Kromowidjojo totaled 89 medals during her international racing career, highlighted by gold medals in the 50-meter freestyle and 100 freestyle at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Kromowidjojo claimed four Olympic medals, 17 medals at the World Championships and 28 medals at the World Short Course Championships.
While his wife excelled in the sprint events, Weertman established himself as an open-water standout, with his biggest title coming in the 10-kilometer race at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Weertman was the world champion in the 10k event at the 2017 World Championships.
