Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has had enough of losing in the WNBA. After finishing with a 13-27 record during Reese’s rookie season in 2024, the Sky are an even worse 10-30 so far this campaign, with four regular-season games left to play.
With her team missing the playoffs for the second straight year, Reese called out the Sky and asked them to take the coming offseason seriously, or face possible consequences.

“I’m not settling for the same s— we did this year. We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s non-negotiable to me,” said Reese via the Chicago Tribune. “I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”
The Sky traded the No.3 pick for Atkins
With the addition of Reese and Kamilla Cardoso via the Draft, the Sky were expected to build on their 8th-place finish in 2023, where they lost to the Las Vegas Aces in the opening round of the playoffs. However, they finished two games short of a playoff spot and earned the No.3 overall pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft.

However, Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca traded the pick to the Washington Mystics for guard Ariel Atkins. While Atkins has averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, the No.3 pick became Sonia Citron, who is having a great rookie year in D.C.. Since Chicago is set to receive another high first-round pick in next year’s Draft, Reese wants the front office to make better moves.
“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want,” she added. “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously, I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I’m here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”
Reese wants championships, not records
No question, Angel has been as good and perhaps even better than advertised. She is a walking double-double who led the league in rebounds as a rookie and is the current rebounds leader this season at 12.6 boards per game.

Recently, Reese became the fastest player to record 700 points and 700 rebounds in the WNBA. However, in an interview with “Elle” fashion magazine last month, she made it clear that winning is her priority, not personal records.
“I don’t really care about records — I just want to win a championship,” she said. “The two most important goals for me before the end of my career are winning a championship, playing on the Olympic team and winning a gold medal.”
The Olympic gold medal may not be too difficult to achieve, given that Team USA is a perennial favorite in the Summer Games. However, the Sky need to do a lot of work this summer to turn their fortunes around and contend for a WNBA title. It’s a tough job, but they have no choice as their star is threatening to leave.
