Ian Machado Garry took a victory lap after Leon Edwards was knocked out for the first time in his career.
Former welterweight champion Edwards (22-6 MMA, 14-5 UFC) suffered his third-straight loss when he was taken out by Carlos Prates (23-7 MMA, 6-1 UFC) this past Saturday at UFC 322 from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Machado Garry and Edwards exchanged words in the past after the Irishman spent some time training at Edwards’ gym, Team Renegade. However, that didn’t last long as Machado Garry was no longer welcomed in the gym, with Edwards explaining that he wasn’t a good fit for their culture.
“I’m very happy that Carlos Prates gave me an early Christmas present, and maybe an early birthday present,” Machado Garry told TNT Sports. “Knocking out Leon, that video, that slo-mo of Leon’s head hitting the canvas was very satisfying. I don’t like Leon. I don’t like his team.
“They spread false rumors about me because of Leon’s insecurities and lack of mental strength in the gym, and bad things come to bad people – people who have bad energy and bring that out to the world. Carlos Prates put him out, and I’m very, very proud of my son for doing that.”
Machado Garry (16-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) is seeking his first title shot when he takes on ex-champion Belal Muhammad (24-4 MMA, 15-4 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 265 (ESPN+) co-main event at ABHA Arena in Doha, Qatar.
