Iga Swiatek insists losing to Coco Gauff 12 months ago isn't giving her any headache ahead of their United Cup rematch.
In January 2025, Poland and the United States met in the United Cup final.
Swiatek, who won her opening four matches at the mixed team event last year, didn't perform well in the final as Gauff clinched a 6-4 6-4 win. Since Taylor Fritz also defeated Hubert Hurkacz, the American team ended up lifting the title.
Fast forward to January 2026, Poland and the United States are set to clash again – this time in the semifinal stage. Just as was the case 12 months ago, Swiatek will again meet Gauff, while Hurkacz and Fritz will square off in the men's singles match.
Ahead of meeting the 21-year-old American in Sydney, the Polish six-time Grand Slam champion was asked if last year's defeat would come into her mind.
Swiatek: I've played Gauff so many times and I don't really look much into the previous matches
"Well, we played so many matches with Coco that I don't really, like, look at the previous ones so much. Like if I would have to do that every time, I would be thinking for a long time because we played many matches against each other," the Polish tennis star explained.
"But yeah, honestly after last year's tournament, I didn't really analyze this match that much. I was already kind of focused on Australian Open. For sure I'm going to sit with Wim tomorrow and he will watch it and he will give me the tips."
After losing to Gauff at the United Cup, Swiatek was also thrashed 1-6 1-6 by the American at the Madrid Open last May. Overall, the Pole has lost her last three meetings against the world No. 4. However, she still comfortably leads the head-to-head against the American 11-4.
Swiatek is the leader of the Polish team and there is no doubt that the former world No. 1 will be determined to do much better this time against Gauff.
