In need of running backs, Purdue football loses one to transfer portal

WEST LAFAYETTE − With two of Purdue football‘s top three running backs graduating, retention was going to be key at the position.

The Boilermakers already have one running back announcing his intent to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2.

Jaheim Merriweather, a sophomore from Jackson, Tennessee, will have two years of eligibility remaining after appearing in 16 games over two seasons at Purdue.

Both of Merriweather’s carries this season came against USC, totaling 4 yards.

As a freshman in 2024, Merriweather carried 15 times for 77 yards and a touchdown and also caught 3 passes for 21 yards.
