Caitlin Clark’s season-ending groin injury is one of five such injuries that Fever players have sustained. Indiana has used 18 players this season, utilizing seven-day hardship contracts to stay afloat while Clark, Sophie Cunningham and others went down with long-term injuries.

The Fever’s additions on seven-day deals helped them clinch a playoff spot last week, and Indiana has since signed each of them to rest-of-season contracts in order to participate in the postseason. Aerial Powers and Odyssey Sims have helped steady the ship amid the wave of injuries; guard Shey Peddy, signed for the rest of the season on Tuesday, has had standout games as well during this vital stretch.

Peddy, 36, missed all of 2024 before joining the Los Angeles Sparks in June. Debuting for Indiana on Aug. 22, the free-agent pickup has averaged 5.5 points in 13.9 minutes that the injury-depleted backcourt desperately needed. Peddy on Sunday made all five of her shot attempts and scored 13 points as the Fever beat the Washington Mystics, 94-65, to secure a playoff spot.
