It’s been a nightmare season for the Fever as it pertains to injuries.
Caitlin Clark has missed a majority of the season due to lower-body injuries. Additionally, Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, and Sydney Colson are all out for the year, and even Chloe Bibby missed Friday night’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx with an injury. That has led to a revolving door of players and daily roster moves to ensure that Indiana has enough players to compete on a nightly basis. And they just made another move.

The Fever went to X on Saturday morning to announce they’ve signed veteran guard Aerial Powers to a seven-day hardship contract. The Fever got this hardship contract due to Cunningham’s season-ending injury she suffered last Sunday.
Powers is a ten-year veteran in the WNBA, most recently playing with the Golden State Valkyries this season, appearing in two games with the league’s newest franchise. She was taken with the fifth overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft out of Michigan State by the Dallas Wings. She played three seasons in Dallas before being traded to Washington. She’s also played in Minnesota and Atlanta.
She’s played in 192 career games, with 56 starts. She’s averaging 10.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game during her time in the league. Just three years ago, with the Lynx, she averaged a career-best 14.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game in 35 appearances. At 31 years old, there’s still some good play left for Powers, and she’ll have a great opportunity for immediate playing time with all the injuries.

The Fever are now 19-17 and clinging to a playoff spot with eight games remaining. They’ll be in action next on Sunday afternoon, when they travel to Minnesota for a rematch with the Lynx.
