Indiana Fever Star Announces Personal News on Tuesday

by

Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever pulled off one of the more unexpected runs of the 2025 WNBA playoffs. After upsetting the Atlanta Dream in a three-game opening-round series, the Fever pushed WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson and the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces to five games in the semifinals. And they did it while dealing with numerous injuries, including the loss of Caitlin Clark.

Mitchell had arguably the best season of her eight-year career, averaging a career-high 20.2 points, along with 1.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Her numbers were even stronger in the playoffs, but in the third quarter of Game 5 against the Aces, she was forced to exit early with a severe case of rhabdomyolysis. Now Mitchell sees her one-year supermax deal with Indiana expire, making her a free agent.

While Mitchell awaits a new contract, the former Ohio State guard is making moves off the court. On Tuesday, she revealed that she spoke at the Hoosier Sports Girls Leadership Symposium, hosted by Indiana University. The event brought together middle school girls and aimed to help them develop future-ready skills through sports.

“Still smiling after the Hoosier Sport Girls Leadership Symposium. Being in a room full of young girls reminded me why representation, mentorship, and community matter,” Mitchell wrote on Instagram. “Grateful to @iusphb @hoosier_sport for inviting me to pour into them – and honestly, they poured right back into me. 💙 Thank you @gainbridgesport and @paritynow for creating spaces and opportunity where girls in sports feel seen, supported, and celebrated.”
