Lamar Wilkerson is taking an unprecedented step.
The Indiana Hoosiers’ new basketball transfer is making a big donation to the school he left.

Wilkerson left Sam Houston State to come play for Darian DeVries at Indiana, earning a sizable NIL payment in the process.
He gave some of that money back to the Bearkats of Sam Houston State.
The donation was six figures, Wilkerson told insiders Jeff Goodman and Rob Dauster.
“I did it out of love, man,” Wilkerson said.
It’s a really cool move by Wilkerson. College basketball, and the professional hoops world that follows, have incentivized players to move up to bigger and better programs.
But in this case, Wilkerson has made it very clear that he knows where he came from.
It likely only makes Indiana feel better about the young man they’ve brought in to play in Bloomington. He clearly has a good head on his shoulders.

The 6-foot-4 guard is also a star, which doesn’t hurt the adulation he’s sure to receive in Hoosiers country.
This past season for Sam Houston State, Wilkerson averaged 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
And maybe most impressive, he shot 44.5% from 3-point range while launching 7.7 attempts per night. That’s absurd.
If Wilkerson can do even some of that in Indiana, it’ll be a huge pickup for DeVries and the Hoosiers.
And although Sam Houston State will surely miss its top player, it’ll also know he was looking out for them even as he left town.
