Indiana men’s soccer aggressive in NCAA tournament loss to team it beat previously

Indiana men’s soccer hoped to add to its decorated trophy case over the next few weeks, but its short postseason stint ended Sunday.

The No. 6 seed Hoosiers were upset 1-0 by Saint Louis in the second round of the NCAA tournament. IU (12-5-1) had previously beaten the Billikens (11-2-7) at Bill Armstrong Stadium by the same result Sept. 3.

But Sunday, it was midfielder Tanner Anderson who scored at 16:16 of the first half for the game’s lone goal. It was also the lone shot on goal for the Billikens, who were under pressure from IU all afternoon.

The Hoosiers peppered 16 shots, three on goal, and yet, Jeremi Abonnel saved them all — two from Palmer Ault and another from Collins Oduro.

It was a brief postseason for IU, which did not make the Big Ten tournament but had a strong enough nonconference that it was a national seed in the tournament.
