BLOOMINGTON — The Indiana women’s basketball team has experienced plenty of growing pains this season, but losing to Purdue at Assembly Hall isn’t going to be one of them.
The Hoosiers (14-11, 3-10 Big Ten) never trailed in a 74-59 win over their rivals on Sunday afternoon. They extended a home-winning streak in the series that goes back to 2011-12 and pre-dates coach Teri Moren’s tenure to 13 games.

Indiana starting guard Shay Ciezki led all scorers with 29 points and finished the game just two assists shy of a triple-double.

Shay Ciezki picks up where she left off against the Boilermakers
Ciezki knocked down a deep 3-pointer to kick off the proceedings on Sunday afternoon. She came into the game averaging 28.5 points over her team’s last four games while shooting 59.3% from 3-point range, a stretch that started with a 37-point game against the Boilermakers.
She carried a heavy scoring load once again for the Hoosiers while also leading the team in rebounds (12) and assists (eight). In the third quarter, Ciezki flashed her vision by setting up Neveah Caffey for layups with cross-court passes on back-to-back possessions.

With Purdue trying to come back in the fourth, Ciezki buried a jumper through contact from the free-throw line to push IU’s lead back to 19 points. She let out a scream as her teammates surrounded her right before she completed a 3-point play with 6:23 to go.
Indiana women’s basketball can’t keep a lid on Purdue’s post players
Indiana managed to outrebound Purdue in the first half 23-12 while holding the Boilermakers bigs (Kendall Puryear and Avery Gordon) to four points on 2 of 9 shooting. That success came with starting forward Zania Socka-Nguemen (foot) still sidelined, but Purdue flipped the script in the second half with Gordon scoring nine points in the third quarter and drawing a series of fouls at the rim.
Indiana coach Teri Moren had to go deep into her bench to Jade Ondinem in the quarter with Edessa Noyan and Faith Wiseman getting into foul trouble. The Boilermakers had more points in the paint in the third quarter (16) than they had in the entire first half (six).

Indiana women’s basketball fights through extended cold spell against Purdue
The Hoosiers bookended the half with extended runs, but everything in between left something to be desired. They didn’t score a field goal in the second quarter until there was 3:35 left in the first half and turned it over five times during that stretch.
Moren called plays for everyone on the floor with little success.
Caffey, a freshman point guard, even tried to post up at one point with IU trying to shake things up. Purdue helped the Hoosiers survive the extended field drought by sending them to the line 10 times in the quarter.
