AEW has a ton of titles at this point, but they are known to make big moves with them. That being said, there may be a bit of distrust within the company when it comes to unifying them.
Questions around AEW’s recent title unification plans came up again during a Fightful Select Q&A after a fan asked about internal reaction to the concept. The discussion focused on how people inside AEW viewed the decision and whether confidence in future unifications still exists.
A fan asked SRS: “Sean, you said in the Fightful Discord the AEW unified situation had people in the company that hated and felt the concept couldn’t be trusted. Could you expand on that if you could?”
Sean Ross Sapp responded to say that someone contacted him regarding tweets he put out. In the end, someone in AEW said that they didn’t feel that trust could be put in the idea of unifying any title again.
“No, I had people that contacted me with a bunch of my tweets and like clips and stuff from shows where I talked about how much I disliked it and they agreed with me. And I mean a lot of people. I don’t think I had one person in the business say, ‘Yeah, they did this the right way,’ or say, like, favorable.”
“And there was at least one person that said that they did not feel like the concept of unifying a title could be trusted in AEW again. And that’s somebody from AEW. And I agree.”
The comments reflect a wider debate among fans and people in the industry about AEW’s growing number of championships. Complaints have centered on how many belts exist at once and whether overlapping titles weaken clarity. The International and Continental titles, followed by the creation of a Unified Championship, left some fans confused when one wrestler carried multiple belts tied to the same lineage.
AEW President Tony Khan has framed titles and tournaments as a way to create structure and stakes, especially for events like the Continental Classic. Others have argued that fewer championships and a clearer hierarchy would make each title feel more defined. For now, the response described by Sean Ross Sapp suggests that skepticism about title unifications is not limited to the audience, but is shared by people inside All Elite Wrestling as well.
